OPEN SESAME

Saturday's game against San Antonio marks the 13th time in the Wolves 18-year history, and the seventh time in the last eight years, the team has opened the season on the road. The Wolves have posted an 8-5-2-2 mark in regular-season openers, which includes a 5-4-1-2 mark away from the Allstate Arena.

WOLVES HEADLINES

--- DARREN HAYDAR: Ranked second on the Wolves and fourth in the AHL with 74 points (27G, 47A) in 77 games last season ... Paced the team and shared 17th in the league with 27 goals and held second on the squad and tied for seventh in the circuit with 47 assists ... Named to the 2011 AHL Second All-Star Team ... Ranks sixth on Chicago's all-time scoring register with 254 points (87G, 167A) in just 201 games with the club, spanning three seasons (2006-08; 2010-11)

--- EDDIE LACK: Shared first among AHL rookies and tied for fourth overall in the league with 28 victories and ranked seventh in the circuit with a 2.26 goals-against average in 53 AHL outings with the Manitoba Moose ... Posted a 28-21-4 record and shared fourth in the league with a .926 save percentage during his AHL debut ... Registered a 6-5 mark, 1.99 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and two shutouts in 12 Calder Cup playoff contests ... His 1.99 goals-against average ranked fourth among league netminders, while his .932 save percentage held third ... Named to the 2011 AHL All-Rookie Team

--- MARK MANCARI: Ranked fifth in the AHL with a career-high 32 goals and shared 14th in the league with 64 points in 56 games with the Portland Pirates last season ... Posted six goals and 12 points in nine Calder Cup playoff matchups ... Skated in 20 National Hockey League contests with the Buffalo Sabres last year, recording 7 assists and 8 points ... Named to the 2011 AHL First All-Star Team

--- BILL SWEATT: Ranked second on the Manitoba Moose and shared ninth among AHL rookies with 46 points (19G, 27A) in 80 contests during his professional debut last season ... His 19 goals held second on the Moose, while his 27 assists held third ... Accrued 5 assists and 6 points in 14 Calder Cup playoff contests last year

--- JORDAN SCHROEDER: Ranked seventh on the Manitoba Moose with 28 points (10G, 18A) in 61 matchups as a rookie last season ... Posted 5 assists and 6 points in 14 Calder Cup postseason contests ... Prior to turning pro, he amassed 22 goals, 51 assists and 73 points in 72 games with the University of Minnesota, spanning two seasons (2008-2010)

WOLF TRACKS

--- Head Coach CRAIG MacTAVISH makes his AHL coaching debut on Saturday after being named the eighth head coach in Wolves history on Aug. 1, 2011; the 53-year-old previously spent eight seasons as the head coach of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, where he compiled a 301-252-47-56 record and .537 winning percentage in 656 games from 2000 to 2009; he also led that club to an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006.

--- Chicago finished sixth in the West Division with 89 points last year (39-30-5-6), the franchise's 17th straight year of finishing above .500.

--- The Wolves ranked fifth in the AHL with a 20.6 efficiency rating on the power-play last season (76 of 369); Chicago's 20.6 rating was the second highest in franchise history, trailing only the 2007-08 squad's 20.8 rating (107 of 515).

--- Chicago posted a 20-15-4-1 record on the road last season; the team's 20 road wins bested their home mark of 19, making this the fourth time in franchise history the Wolves have finished a season with more road victories than home victories (1999-00; 2000-01; 2006-07).

--- Twenty-seven of the Wolves 39 wins last season came when they held opponents to two or fewer goals in a game (27-2-0-0).

CLIMB ABOARD

--- Goaltender MATT CLIMIE kicked out 32 of 33 shots in 90:08 of action over two games during the preseason; the 28-year-old netminder ranked seventh in the AHL with 26 victories and recorded a 26-22-3 mark, 2.64 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 55 outings with the San Antonio Rampage last year.

--- Wolves right wing DARREN HAYDAR scored 97 seconds into the extra session to lift the team to a 2-1 overtime victory against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Triphahn Community Center and Ice Arena
--- Forward NATHAN LONGPRE also scored for the Wolves
--- Goaltender MATT CLIMIE kicked out 21 of 22 shots in picking up the win

Chicago 3, (at) Peoria 2
--- The Wolves broke a 2-2 deadlock halfway though the third period and hung on for a 3-2 victory over the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena
--- Defenseman KEVIN CONNAUTON scored a pair of goals for the Wolves, while blueliner SEBASTIAN ERIXON tallied the other marker
--- Goaltenders MATT CLIMIE (11 saves) and KAREL ST. LAURENT (14 saves) split time in ST. LAURENT's win

Wed., Sept. 28
Chicago 4, (at) Rockford 2
--- The Wolves fell behind 2-0 after 20 minutes but rattled off four consecutive goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Rockford IceHogs at Carlson Ice Arena
--- Forwards DEAN STRONG, PATRICK ASSELIN and NATHAN LONGPRE and defenseman VINCENT LoVERDE all scored for Chicago
--- Goaltenders CHARLIE EFFINGER (17-19) and ROB NOLAN (13-13) split time in NOLAN's win
