Hershey Bears News Release

Paul Jerrard assums the reigns tonight as the BEARS look for the club's first win of the season. HERSHEY plays at Broome County tonight against Binghamton, the first of six meetings between the clubs in 2004-05.

Head coach Paul Fixter took a leave of absence from the club yesterday for family medical reasons. While Jerrard will serve as interim head coach tonight and possibly tomorrow against Philadelphia, former NHL goaltender and Avalanche Director of Player Personnel Craig Billington will be Jerrard's interim assistant coach.

Chris Bala and Andre Savage are tied for the team lead in goals with one each entering play tonight in Binghamton. High flying centerman Antoine Vermette of Binghamton has a goal and four assists in two games for the B-Sens to lead tonight's opposition in scoring.

The game is one of two this weekend for HERSHEY. The BEARS return home Saturday to face the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911. The BEARS will honor former defenseman Mike Mahoney with a moment of silence before the game. Mahoney, who played for the Chocolate and White between 1961-1971, passed away suddenly this week at the age of 66. He was a member of HERSHEY'S 1969 Calder Cup championship club.

Tonight's game can be heard in central Pennsylvania on 1460-AM in Harrisburg/Hershey and 1390-AM in Lancaster. The game can also be heard worldwide on www.pennlive.com. John Walton describes the action beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
