
Dan Ellis Makes 45 Saves in Bulldogs Loss

Philadelphia, PA - The Hamilton Bulldogs suffered their first regulation loss of the season as they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Philadelphia Phantoms in front of 10,512 fans at the Wachovia Center on Friday night. The Bulldogs record now stands at two wins, one loss and one overtime loss.
The Phantoms and Bulldogs traded three goals a piece during the first two periods. Philadelphia opened the scoring and had goals in the first two periods from Eric Meloche, Riley Cote and Peter White.
Scoring for the Bulldogs were veteran Tomas Plekanec with two goals and Corey Locke with a single. Defenceman Ron Hainsey had an assist on all three Bulldogs goals.
The game winner came at the 6:34 mark of the third period as the Phantoms' Patrick Sharp scored his second goal of the season on the power play. Tony Voce would add an insurance goal for Philadelphia with just 1:28 remaining in regulation time.
Despite taking the loss, Bulldogs goaltender Dan Ellis made 45 saves and was named the game's first star. Phantoms netminder Antero Niittmaki earned the victory by stopping 19 of 22 shots.
The Bulldogs scored twice on eight power play opportunities, while the Phantoms earned two goals on five opportunities with the man-advantage.
Jason Ward made his first appearance of the season in a Bulldogs' uniform after signing a contract earlier in the week. Ward contributed with an assist in his season debut.
