Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, October 22, 2004: The Hartford Wolf Pack invite all area school children to take part in mascot Sonar's first ever "EduSkate" game. This is an educational school day game to be played Monday, November 1 at 11:05 a.m. versus the Houston Aeros. The game is a regularly scheduled AHL contest, developed in cooperation with educational partners, which allows students to take an exciting, instructional and unique field trip to a Wolf Pack hockey game. The goal is to use hockey as a teaching tool for kids to learn about math, geography, science, fitness and more.
"What a great way to partner with our area schools and PTA's to provide a fun learning environment for local children," said Wolf Pack General Manager Jim Schoenfeld. "The response to similar programs around the league has been phenomenal, and we're excited to bring the program to Hartford this season and give some children who may not have the opportunity to ever attend a professional hockey game, a memorable and educational experience."
Each student will receive a free educational package with questions that will be answered or activities that will be carried out during the game. The game presentation will be geared to the educational aspect of the day, and during stoppages in play, players will answer questions, pose problems and provide information to the students on the JumboTron. Sonar and his sidekick WTIC-FM's Damon Scott will also help students work through their exercises.
Student group tickets for Sonar's "EduSkate" game are $8.00. Concessions will be open with lunch specials for fans as well. Schools and any groups interested in participating can contact the Wolf Pack Group Sales Department at 860-548-2000. Season ticket holders who cannot attend can either redeem their unused tickets for another game, or can donate them to a needy school.
The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden LP. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG LP, which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
