Denis Hamel scored the game-winning goal in the third period as HERSHEY fell to 0-3-0-0 with a 3-2 loss at Binghamton Friday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Senators got on the board first with a goal from Pat Kavanaugh at the 6:43 mark of the first period. Kavanaugh took a pass from Chris Kelly and beat Peter Budaj to give the B-Sens a 1-0 lead. The first period featured only two penalties, both of which were fighting majors. HERSHEY'S Jeff Finger fought Binghamton's Grant Potulny at the 9:18 mark.

A couple of firsts would spur HERSHEY to its first lead of the season during the second period Friday night. Rookie forward Ryan Steeves scored his first pro goal with a tally against Binghamton goaltender Ray Emery at the 9:28 mark of the second. The shot came from the top of the left circle after center Cody McCormick had forced a Binghamton turnover. The BEARS grabbed a 2-1 lead at the 13:05 mark of the second when rookie defenseman Johnny Boychuk blasted a shot past Emery from near center point. HERSHEY took a 2-1 lead to the dressing room after two despite being outshot in the middle period 13-8.

Binghamton would come roaring back in the third period, outshooting HERSHEY 14-1 to begin the final stanza. Former BEARS forward Charlie Stephens scored to tie the game before Hamel scored the game-winner at the 9:50 mark of the third. The Senators outshot the BEARS 40-33 for the contest.

HERSHEY hosts the Philadelphia Phantoms Saturday night at GIANT Center. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
