Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums battled back on a Chase Burch homerun in the seventh inning, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling to the Oakland County Cruisers 6-3 in front of 5,128 fans at Wuerfel Park on Friday
Despite the loss, the Beach Bums still hold onto the wild card spot in the East Division by a game over Windy City who defeated Kalamazoo on Friday night.
After three scoreless frames began the game, Oakland County strung together five hits in the fourth inning to score three runs and take a 3-0 lead. The Cruisers would plate two more in the fifth to go up 5-0.
Traverse City would get a run back on a bases loaded walk by J. T. Hall in the fifth to make it 5-1. The game would remain that way until Michael Diaz was hit by a pitch with two out in the seventh. Burch followed by clocking his eighth homer of the year to left cutting the OC lead to 5-3.
The Cruisers came back with a run in the top of the eighth inning to go up 6-3. The Beach Bums had a chance in the ninth as a walk by Chris Engell and a single by Diaz brought the tying run to the plate, but P. J. Zocchi was able to retire Burch for the final out of the ballgame.
Kevin Asselin (6-3) earned the win for Oakland County with seven solid innings. Zocchi recorded his league leading 22nd save of the season. Michael Moore (5-3) took the loss for the Beach Bums.
Offensively, Michael Diaz recorded two hits and Matt Brown had a single and a walks to extend his consecutive game on base streak to 39 contests.
The Beach Bums now head out for a big three game series at Windy City. Ryan Platt (7-2, 2.60) gets the ball in the first game for Traverse City against Dustin Williams (3-3, 3.21) for the ThunderBolts. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. with the pregame show on Sunny Country 101.9 beginning at 7:45.
