WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Lake Erie Crushers fell to the Washington Wild Things 6-2 Friday night at CONSOL Energy Park as the Wild Things capped a sweep of the Crushers.

The Crushers got on the board first, taking the lead for the first time in the series in the top half of the third. Trae Gore picked up his second professional hit with a single to right. After Dom Duggan was hit by a pitch, Jodam Rivera sacrifice bunted both runners into scoring position for Eddie Tisdale. Tisdale grounded out to second but Gore was able to scamper home to give the Crushers the 1-0 lead.

That lead, however, would not last long as the Wild Things broke through against Crushers rookie Jon Durket in his first professional start. With runners at the corners and one out, Luis Rivera lined a single to right to score Billy O'Conner and tie the game. After a John Delaney walk loaded the bases, Eric Stephens stepped in for what turned out to be a ten-pitch battle with Durket. On the tenth pitch, Stephens hit his fifth home run of the year for a grand slam. Mark McGonigle doubled before Wilson Matos brought him in with an RBI-single to put Washington ahead 6-1.

The Crushers would score in the seventh against Wild Things reliever Ben Roldewald when Dom Duggan roped a triple down the right field line with one out to bring Arden McWilliams around from first. But Duggan would fail to score as a botched squeeze by Jodam Rivera resulted in Duggan being tagged out by Billy O'Conner. Rivera, attempting to make a heads up play to hustle to second, was then thrown out by O'Conner to end the inning with the score 6-2.

Justin Edwards turned in the third quality start in the three-game series for the Wild Things, pitching six innings allowing just the one run on four hits and striking out seven Crushers on his way to his fourth victory of the season.

The Crushers return home to All Pro Freight Stadium Saturday night for the opener of a three-game set against the Kalamazoo Kings. RHP Matt Smith (7-4, 3.69) takes the hill against RHP Joe DiPietro (4-7, 6.46).
