Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Altoona dropped to 1-4 on its current eight-game homestand after the Bowie Baysox defeated the Curve, 6-1, on Friday night at Blair County Ballpark. Baysox starter Rick Zagone (3-6) tossed six innings and struck out season-best seven batters in the win.

It was once again the opponent scoring in the second off a Curve starter as on Friday it was the Baysox scoring three off Kyle McPherson (2-3) after the right hander pitched a 1-2-3 first. The inning all started with two away in the frame when Caleb Joseph and Ronnie Welty singled back-to-back to place runners at the corners. Greg Miclat followed with a RBI single to right that brought Joseph in and Bowie took the lead, 1-0.

Kyle Hudson followed Miclat's hit with a triple that cleared the bases and brought Welty and Miclat in to push Bowie in front, 3-0 after 1.5 innings.

McPherson would settle down and not permit any runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames but it wouldn't be until the bottom of the fifth when Altoona found its first runs off Zagone.

Trailing by three, Altoona cut the lead to two when Matt Curry hit a sacrifice fly that brought Andrew Lambo in from third. With Tony Sanchez still on at first and just one down, Quincy Latimore struck out and Jose Hernandez grounded in to an inning-ending fielder's choice to end the threat.

Altoona wouldn't get another runner into scoring position until Brock Holt tripled with two down in the ninth.

McPherson finished six innings and wound up allowing a Double-A high four runs over his six innings of work. Aaron Thompson worked two innings out of the bullpen and gave up two runs on four hits, including a solo home run to Welty in the seventh. Noah Krol worked a perfect ninth with a strikeout as well for the Curve.

Holt once again had a multi-hit game and has now recorded multi-hit games in three straight. Latimore ended the game 0-for-2 and had his hitting streak halted at nine games.

Looking to stop a two-game skid, Altoona (37-49) will play the second game of the four-game set with the Baysox (44-41) at 7 p.m. Saturday night at BCB. The most notable travelling mascot crew in Minor League Baseball will be in attendance on Saturday night as The ZOOperstars invade the ballpark. Squidney Crosby, Barack Ollama, Harry Canary, Nolan Rhino and Monkey Mantle will all make the trek to entertain and wow the fans in attendance on Saturday night.

One lucky fan will also have an opportunity to win a $1,000 Sheetz gas card on Saturday night thanks to the folks at Nuts for You at their concourse stand. The second game of the series will also serve as a Community Collection Saturday at BCB as we ask fans to bring in art supplies to be donated to local Blair County libraries.

Not to be forgotten is the Family Sleepover that will take place after the game on Saturday. Anyone that purchases a ticket can spend the night on the field after the game (those 18 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian). Tents (no stakes) and chairs are permitted to spend the night at the ballpark. A movie will be shown on the video board during the Family Sleepover and fans must exit the park on Sunday morning by 7 a.m. Kids will also get to run the bases after the game as well.

LHP Jeff Locke (5-8, 4.57) takes the ball for Altoona on Saturday while RHP Zach Clark (5-7, 5.11) throws for Bowie. Gates swing open at 6 p.m. while airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
