d'Arnaud Doubles in Run But Fisher Cats Fall 8-3

(Manchester, NH)---Travis d'Arnaud scored a run and drove in a run with a double and Mark Sobolewski had two hits, but the Fisher Cats dropped the opener of a series with Portland 8-3 before 5,732 on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

All-Stars Alex Wilson of Portland and Zach Stewart of New Hampshire were the starters in the game. The Sea Dogs (34-52) chased Stewart (4-5) after four innings in which they opened a 7-0 lead.

Portland's Jeremy Hazelbaker doubled to start the game and scored on a single by Chih-Hsien Chiang (3-for-4, 2 RBI) for a 1-0 lead. Hazelbaker led off the third inning with a single and scored on a double by Alex Hassan. Chiang singled and Hassan scored when Will Middlebrooks grounded into a double play to make it 3-0.

The Sea Dogs batted around in the top of the fourth inning, scoring four times for a 7-0 lead. Heiker Meneses singled in one run, Hassan (2-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI) doubled in two more runs and scored when Middlebrooks reached on an error.

The Fisher Cats (49-36) scored twice in the fourth. Mike McDade singled and scored on a double by d'Arnaud. Sobolewski singled and Portland starter Alex Wilson then walked consecutive batters, Jonathan Diaz and John Tolisano, as d'Arnaud scored.

Anthony Gose walked and stole second in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring on a single by Moises Sierra to make it 7-3.

Wilson worked five innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out five. Portland's Kyle Fernandes tossed three innings of scoreless relief and Cesar Cabral finished up.

Portland added another run in the top of the sixth inning. Hassan walked and scored on a double by Chiang off B. J. LaMura. Matt Daly worked two scoreless innings, finishing up for New Hampshire.
