
SeaWolves Drop Series Opener to Aeros 4-1

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves opened up a four-game series at Canal Park against the Akron Aeros and came out on the short end of a 4-1 game.
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the second inning against Akron starter Austin Adams. Bryan Pounds led off with a single and moved to second on a Francisco Martinez base hit. Justin Henry sacrificed the runners into scoring position and Brandon Douglas grounded out, scoring Pounds for a 1-0 lead.
Erie starter Jay Voss held the lead until the bottom of the seventh inning. Chun Chen led off the seventh with a triple and he scored on a one-out Raul Padron single, tying the game at 1-1. Tyler Cannon doubled putting runners on second and third. John Drennen walked loading the bases for Cristo Arnal. Arnal hit into a fielder's choice and picked up an RBI as Padron scored the go-ahead run. An error by Gustavo Nunez at second allowed all the runners to reach safely, keeping the bases loeded. With two outs, Juan Diaz singled home Cannon and Drennen making it 4-1 Aeros.
The SeaWolves could get no closer as Akron relievers Eric Berger and Cory Burns did not allow a hit over the final three innings of the game, preserving the win for the Aeros.
The loss for the SeaWolves was their fifth straight which is the longest losing streak of the season for the âWolves. Erie has also dropped nine straight road games. Erie's last road win came June 22 at Reading.
Voss (4-4) too the loss allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
The SeaWolves will look to snap the five-game slide on Saturday night at Canal Park...7:05 First Pitch. RHP Mark Sorensen (7-6, 6.38 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against LHP T.J. McFarland (5-4, 4.09 ERA).
