Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Reading, PA) -- Tyler Cloyd enjoys pitching in Baseballtown. He showed it once again on Friday.

Cloyd (3-1, 3.48) tossed six solid innings, the R-Phils belted out 12 hits, and went on to beat the Trenton Thunder 6-1 on Friday evening in game one of their four-game series from FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA.

A native of Bellevue, NE, Cloyd, allowed one run on seven hits over six innings of work to notch another win in Baseballtown. The 24-year-old now has three wins on the season, with all three coming in Reading. In fact, in six starts at home this year, Cloyd has a 3-1 mark with a 2.61 ERA. On the road, he has gone 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA (six earned runs in six innings) over two games.

Over his last two starts, the 6'3" right-hander has compiled a 2-0 mark with a 2.08 ERA (three runs over 13 innings). He's also won three of his last four games, including a season-high eight sharp innings in a win on June 23 against Erie.

While Cloyd has been fantastic on the mound, outfielder Steve Susdorf has been remarkable with his bat. The California native went 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored, and has now hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games. On Friday, the 25-year-old raised his average to .339 on the season, and is currently hitting .467 with one home run and six RBIs in July (eight games).

Earlier in the day, Susdorf was honored by Philadelphia, as he was named as the Phillies Minor League Player of the Week, for the week of June 27-July 3. That week, Susdorf hit an impressive .476 with an organization high of 10 hits.

Trenton starter Manny Banuelos (3-3, 3.53) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over five innings and was saddled with the loss. The Mexican native walked one and fanned three. He is now 1-1 in three starts against Reading this season.

The R-Phils initially trailed Trenton 1-0, after an RBI single by Austin Romine in the top of the third inning. Reading came back to score six unanswered runs, including two in the third, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth. With the win, the R-Phils moved back over the .500 mark on the season (44-43) and the club also improved to 5-6 against Trenton in 2011. Both teams will be back at it again on Saturday in game two. RHP Austin Hyatt (7-5, 4.48) gets the nod for Reading, while the Thunder will send LHP Shaeffer Hall (6-4, 3.97) to the mound.

Coverage begins with the R-Phils pre-game show at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV and readinphillies.com. Brian Seltzer will have the call for all of the action. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and the game can also be seen live on Service Electric Cable TV-2 sports.
