Erie, PA - For the second straight day the Baysox gave up a four-run inning late in the game and ended up falling to the SeaWolves 11-10 in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon.
Erie scored four times in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings. With the bases loaded and one out, Brandon Douglas knocked in his third run of the game on a sacrifice fly. Tony Plagman then tied up the game with a two-out three-run home run to make the score 10-10.
They would win it in the bottom of the 10th on a Niuman Romero single to left that scored Corey Jones to finish off the SeaWolves comeback.
The Baysox offense wasted no time getting on the board. With two outs in the top of the first, Zelous Wheeler was hit by a pitch and then Brandon Waring homered to give the Baysox an early 2-0 lead.
They added another run in the second. With Robbie Widlansky at first and Tyler Townsend at third, Allan de San Miguel hit into a double play that allowed Townsend to score and extend the lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the second, the SeaWolves rallied with a five-run inning. Jordan Lennerton singled to lead off the inning and Bryan Pounds doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Rob Brantley then knocked them both in with a two-run single. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, one out and Brandon Douglas batting, Brantley scored on a passed ball. Then Douglas grounded out to second, but on the play Brent Wyatt scored to give Erie the lead. Tony Plagman followed with a single that knocked in Jamie Johnson and gave the SeaWolves a 5-3 lead.
The Baysox took the lead back in the fourth inning. With two outs and no one on base, Widlansky and de San Miguel drew back-to-back walks. Antoan Richardson then gave the Baysox a 6-5 lead with a three-run home run.
In the fifth inning, the Baysox added two more runs. Wheeler led off with a walk and Waring singled to put two runners on. Manny Machado then knocked in Wheeler with a double to left. Townsend followed with another RBI single that scored Waring and made it an 8-5 game.
Zelous Wheeler knocked in an insurance run in the sixth inning with a single to center that scored Richardson and extended the Baysox lead to 9-5.
Tyler Townsend led off the seventh inning with his team leading fourth home run of the season to give the Baysox a five-run lead, 10-5.
The SeaWolves got a run back in the bottom of the seventh. Niuman Romero led off the inning with a single and went to second when the ball was misplayed by Richardson in center. Then with two outs, Douglas knocked him in with a single to cut the lead to 10-6.
Zach Clark left the game in line for the win, but got a no decision. He allowed five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in five innings of work. All five runs came in the second inning. In his other four innings of work he retired 11 of the 13 batters that he faced.
