Erie SeaWolves News Release
Not even the rains could dampen the hit parade put on by the Erie SeaWolves and the Bowie Baysox. The two teams combined for 21 runs on 28 hits in a comeback victory for Erie, 11-10 in 10 innings.
In the top half of the 1st, after Bowie third baseman Zelous Wheeler was hit by a pitch, designated hitter Brandon Waring drove a Jared Wesson fastball into the batter's eye in dead center for a two-run homer, putting Bowie on top early. The Baysox would tack on another run in the top half of the second after catcher Allen de San Miguel grounded into a double play, scoring first baseman Tyler Townsend from third.
Erie would answer with five runs of their own, on six hits, in the bottom of the second. After back-to-back hits by Jordan Lennerton and Bryan Pounds, catcher Rob Brantley lined a single down the right field line, driving in both Lennerton and Pounds. Back-to-back singles by Brent Wyatt and Jamie Johnson loaded the bases for the SeaWolves. After Brantley scored on a passed ball by de San Miguel, Brandon Douglas grounded out to second, scoring Wyatt. The next batter, Tony Plagman, singled to right, scoring Johnson.
Bowie would not allow Erie to hold the lead long. After two quick outs to start the top of the 4th, Wesson walked two straight, before giving up a three-run homer to centerfielder Antoan Richardson, putting Bowie back on top 6-5. Bowie would add two more in the 5th, with a Manny Machado RBI double, and a Townsend RBI infield single. A Wheeler RBI single in the 6th, and a Townsend solo homer in the 7th put Bowie up 10-5.
Erie would trim the deficit by one in the bottom half of the 7th on an RBI single by Douglas. In the bottom half of the 9th, the SeaWolves would tie the game at 10, benefiting from two Bowie errors. After a Douglas sac fly scored Niuman Romero, Plagman sent a line drive to left that just stayed fair for a three-run, game-tying homer, sending the game to extra innings.
In the bottom of the tenth, Corey Jones reached on an error, followed by a Brantley single. Romero would then send the Erie fans home happy with a single over the head of the left fielder to score pinch runner Michael Rockett.
Erie pitcher Tyler Stohr got the victory, going 2 shutout innings of relief. The loss goes to Robert Hinton, who gave up the unearned run without recording an out in the bottom of the 10th.
Waring and Richardson led the Bowie offense, going a combined 6 for 9, with a double, two walks, two homeruns, and 5 RBI. The hero for Erie was Tony Plagman, who went 3-5 with 4 RBI, including the game tying three-run homer in the bottom of the 9th.
The loss drops the Baysox to 3-7, while the SeaWolves improve to 4-4 on the young season.
