Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine- Derrik Gibson went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI giving the Sea Dogs their first winning streak of the season. After dropping the home opener on Thursday night, the Sea Dogs have won two straight, defeating the Binghamton Mets 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland has their first winning streak at home since back-to-back wins against Erie on August 13-14, 2011.

The Sea Dogs snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, putting three runs on the board off the Binghamton bullpen. Kevin Mulvey (0-1) walked the first 3 batters of the inning and was removed for Edgar Ramirez.

The B-Mets righty retired Heiker Meneses but Gibson delivered a two-run double. The fifth run came on Kolbrin Vitek's run-scoring single.

Binghamton made things interesting in the ninth inning, loading the bases against Josh Fields, but the righty fanned Eric Campbell to end the game. Fields, who notched his first save of the season, worked two innings on 4 hits, one run and 4 strikeouts.

Will Latimer (1-0) earned his first Double-A win, pitching two scoreless innings of relief. Starter Billy Buckner shined in his Hadlock Field debut, yielding 2 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Portland grabbed their first lead of the series, scoring two runs off Gorski in the fourth. Juan Carlos Linares led off the frame with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Bryce Brentz's double. Oscar Tejeda nailed a double down the left-field line, giving Portland a 2-0 lead. Binghamton responded in the fifth, plating two off Buckner. With one out, Josh Rodriguez walked, Juan Centeno singled and Sean Kazmar delivered a two-run double.

The series wraps-up Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Hadlock Field. Right-hander Chris Balcom-Miller (1-0, 1.64) will get the start for the Sea Dogs.
