Aeros Score Seven Unanswered Runs, Stunning Trenton 8-5

AKRON, OH - The Aeros (6-2) recorded their second comeback with of the season, thanks to a pinch-hit three-run home run by Jared Goedert in the seventh inning, stunning the Trenton Thunder (3-6), 8-5 Saturday afternoon at Canal Park in front of 2,113 fans.

Trenton jumped out in front 3-0 in the top of the second inning. Melky Mesa reached on a single past short, and would later score on a Luke Murton single to a diving Adam Abraham at first base to make it 1-0. Later in the inning following a single by Kevin Mahoney and a Jeffrey Farnham reaching on a fielder's choice, Addison Maruszak doubled on a fly ball to center, plating the two runners.

The Aeros scored eight unanswered runs through the eighth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, following a Thomas Neal walk and a Chun Chen double down the third base line, Weglarz brought home the first run on a groundout to second, plating Neal. An inning later, Tim Fedroff continued his hot hitting, singling on a line drive to center scoring Kyle Bellows who singled and advanced into scoring position on a balk by Trenton starter, Josh Romanski to make it 4-2. The Aeros scored for the third time in the sixth, after Nick Weglarz led off with a single to right and eventually scored on a groundball to second by Bellows. Akron would break out for four more runs to take the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh off Trenton reliever Francisco Rondon. With Chen and Neal on first and third courtesy of a double and single, respectively, a passed ball by the catcher, Jeffrey Farnham scored Neal, moving Chen to third. An Adam Abraham walk set up the turning point in the game. Jared Goedert stepped in the batter's box for Ben Copeland, connecting on a three-run shot to left center, placing the Aeros ahead, 7-4. Ryan Rohlinger added a solo home run in the eight to make It 8-4. Melky Mesa collected his second home run of the season to lead off the ninth, closing the gap to 8-5.

Akron starter Giovanni Soto lasted just four innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (all earned), a walk and striking out five. Reliever Kyle Landis (1-0, 0,00 ERA) replaced Soto in the fifth, giving manager Chris Tremie three innings, earning the win allowing just a hit and fanning three. Bryan Price, making his first appearance since April 9, recorded a scoreless 1-2-3 eighth inning.

The Aeros will wrap up their four-game home series with Trenton on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Aeros left-hander Eric Berger (0-1, 13.50 ERA) will make the start against right-handed pitcher Craig Heyer (0-1, 1.93 ERA). Sunday afternoon's game is the first Family FUNday/Kids Club of 2012. It includes pregame catch on field, player autograph table next to the entrance of Infield Outfitters, kids entertainers, in-game kids stampede on field, and postgame kids run the bases sponsored by Smith Dairy.
