Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, MD - While the Baysox have struggled mightily against Akron this season, Eric DuBose entered tonight's game have won both his starts against the Aeros.
That streak ended tonight, as the Baysox wasted another early lead in a 5-2 loss to the Aeros at Canal Park on Friday.
The Baysox (32-35) have now lost 13 of their 18 match-ups with Akron this season, while DuBose saw his record fall to 5-7 on the season.
Bowie scored two runs in the first, but missed an opportunity for an even bigger inning. Luis Matos led off the game by getting hit by a Brian Slocum pitch, and then promptly stole second. Peter Bergeron grounded back to the mound, advancing Matos to third. Tripper Johnson followed with a double to the gap in right-center to bring home the game's first run. Johnson came home on Simon Pond's single, but the inning ended when Joey Hammond grounded into a double play.
But as has been the case for much of this road trip, the Baysox failed to score the rest of the game. Bowie stranded ten runners in the game, and three times failed to score despite getting two hits in an inning.
The trouble started for DuBose in the third, when Jon Van Every led off the inning with a home run to cut the Baysox lead in half. Shaun Larkin tied the game two outs later with an RBI single to score Ivan Ochoa.
Franklin Gutierrez put Akron ahead for good with a homer to lead off the fourth, and Van Every struck again in the sixth, hitting a two-run double to make it 5-2.
DuBose lasted six innings, allowing all five runs on eight hits.
The Baysox brought the tying run to the plate with none out in the ninth after Brandon Marsters and Brandon Fahey singled to start the inning. But Chris Cooper retired the next three batters in order for his sixth save.
