Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Déjà Vu All Over Again Miguel Negron homered three times and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats touched up Binghamton Mets starter Kevin Deaton for nine runs in two-plus innings on their way to a 14-6 victory last night at NYSEG Stadium. Aarom Baldiris had a three-run double and Jeff Duncan drove in two with a triple for the B-Mets, who lost the final two games of their four-game series with the Fisher Cats, earning a split.

Lambin To Triple A The B-Mets start a seven-game road trip tonight without the services of their leading hitter, as Chase Lambin was called up to Triple-A Norfolk after last night's game. The switch-hitting infielder departs with a .323 average, sixth-best in the EL, and a team-leading 11 home runs. He is the fourth B-Met to be called up to Norfolk this season, joining RHP Tim Lavigne, LHP Tim Hamulack and OF Prentice Redman.

The Roll Ends Deaton's performance came a day after fellow B-Mets starter Matt Lindstrom allowed six earned runs in 1/3 of an inning, meaning the starting staff has allowed 15 earned runs in 2 1/3 innings over their last two games (57.86 ERA). This comes after a six-game stretch that saw the rotation allow just six earned runs in 30 1/3 innings (1.78 ERA).

June Swoon The B-Mets are now 4-10 in June, putting them one loss shy of matching their loss total for each of the previous two months (April: 12-11, May: 14-11). While the club continues to lead the league in hitting, B-Mets pitchers have posted a 5.82 ERA in the sixth month of the year, allowing nearly two baserunners an inning.

Scouting the Navigators The B-Mets and Norwich last met on Sunday, with Binghamton picking up a 3-2, 10-inning win after trailing 2-0 going into the ninth. That loss started a tailspin for Norwich, which has dropped four of five since taking the first two games of the series at NYSEG Stadium last Friday and Saturday. Norwich has won four of the first six meetings between the two clubs.

On The Mound RHP Brian Bannister (7-1, 2.09) Last Time Out: Sun. vs. NOR (ND): 7 IP, 2 R, 6 H, BB, 9 K (W 3-2, 10)...Julio Cordido got to Brian twice for solo homers in the second and fourth, accounting for the only runs off the righthander. Other than Cordido's home runs, only one other ball was hit in the air to the outfield off Brian, who retired the last eight Navigators in order, but left trailing 2-0. Brian also opposed Merkin Valdez in that outing.

This Season: Brian has lasted at least five innings in 12 of his 13 starts this year and has given up two runs or fewer in 10 of his outings. The righthander has also piled up the strikeouts over his last three starts, fanning 20 in 21 innings. Opponents are hitting a mere .098 (4 for 41) with runners in scoring position against him. Brian's been solid at NYSEG Stadium (2-0, 2.57, seven starts), but even better on the road (5-1, 1.51, six starts).

Against Norwich: Other than Sunday's outing, Brian's faced the Navigators one other time this year. Norwich handed Brian his first, and so far only, loss of the season May 14th at Dodd Stadium, as the righthander lasted a season-low 4 2/3 innings, giving up a season-high five runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks, striking out two in a 7-3 Norwich win. Brian allowed an unearned run in the fourth and was chased during a four-run fifth, leaving after allowing a three-run double to A.J. LaBarbera.

Background: The 24-year-old Arizonan is in his third professional season after being drafted by the Mets in the seventh round in 2003 out of the University of Southern California. The son of Floyd Bannister, who pitched in the majors for 15 seasons with six different teams, Brian's brother Brett also pitched at USC and was selected by Seattle in the 19th round of this year's draft
