Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Saturday night the Rapid City Rush rang in the New Year with a big 6-2 win over the Tulsa Oilers at the Civic Center. The Rush got a pair of goals from Konrad Reeder, including the game-winner, but it was Danny Battochio's empty-net tally that served as the icing on the cake. The Rush are back in action next Friday and Saturday against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Tickets are available by calling 716-7825 or online at gotmine.com.

For the second straight game, the Rush and Oilers went scoreless through the first period before both offenses awakened in the second period. The teams exchanged goals just 59 seconds apart when Mike Vaskivuo and Gary Steffes both found the twine early in the middle frame. Rapid City then took control of the contest near the midway point on back to back goals by Konrad Reeder. They then capped off the period with Jesse Schultz's team leading 16th goal of the year.

In the final frame the Oilers bounced back with a goal from defenseman Sean Erickson that cut the Rush lead to two. Rookie Levi Lind then potted his second of the season at the 15:13 mark giving the Rush a three goal lead. Finally with time winding down, Danny Battochio was credited with the first ever goal by a goaltender in team history. An errant pass by an Oiler player found its way into the net and because Battochio was the last Rush player to touch the puck, he was credited with the goal.

The win moves the Rush to 16-12-1 and elevates them to third place in the Turner Conference.
