Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Brahmas continued their road trip in Missouri on Saturday night, suffering a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Mavericks thanks to a last-minute goal from Ed McGrane.

Texas took a 1-0 lead just 1:07 into the first period, as Jordan Kary found the back of the net for the 10th time in 2011-12. The rookie's goal was the earliest the Brahmas have scored in a game this season.

Texas held the one-goal lead for over 36 minutes until All-Star forward Andrew Courtney snuck one past Brahmas netminder Steve Silverthorn at the 17:15 mark of the second period.

The game remained tied at one goal apiece for almost the entirety of the third period as both teams put an emphasis on defense. But with just 51 seconds remaining in regulation, Ed McGrane led a two-on-one fast break and beat Silverthorn with a slapshot off the inside of his blocker to put the Mavs ahead 2-1. Texas pulled Silverthorn for the extra attacker but were unable to get the equalizer.

Mavericks goaltender Charlie Effinger stopped 22 of 23 shots fired on net, holding the Brahmas sccoreless for the final 58:53 of the game to pick up his 10th victory. Silverthorn made 26 saves on 28 Missouri shots but took the loss to fall to 6-7-4 on the season.

The Brahmas play next in Arizona on Friday, January 6 as they face off against the Sundogs for the fifth time this season. Texas returns home to the NYTEX Sports Centre on Sunday, January 15 to take on the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 5:00pm.
