INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks finished 2011 on a high note, beating the Texas Brahmas, 2-1 Saturday night at Independence Events Center in front of a sellout crowd of 5,800 fans. Ed McGrane scored the game winner with 51 seconds remaining in regulation and Ryan Jardine added a goal and an assist on the night. Charlie Effinger stopped 22 of 23 shots by Texas and has now stopped 51 of the last 52 shots he has faced.
The Brahmas opened up the scoring on a goal from Jordan Kary just 1:07 into the game. Phil Fox received the only assist on the tally. The period ended 1-0 in favor of the Brahmas, but with the Mavs outshooting the Brahmas, 9-5.
Andrew Courtney evened things up late in the second period, gathering a pass from Ryan Jardine in the goal crease and sliding it past Texas goaltender Steve Silverthorn, tying the game at 1-1. Jardine and Ed McGrane were credited with assists on the goal. The Mavs outshot the Brahmas 13-5 in the period and held a strong 22-10 advantage in shots through two periods.
The third period went without incident until Ed McGrane buried a rebound in the slot with 51 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead with under a minute to play. Jardine recorded his second point of the night and now has six points in his last five games.
Charlie Effinger continued his strong play in net, stopping 22 of 23 shots by the Brahmas, but the Mavs power play again fell short, as Missouri went zero-for-two with man advantages.
