
Summers' Hat Trick Helps Thunder Slide Past IceMen

Wichita, KS- Matt Summers scored a goal in each period and Thomas Beauregard tallied the game winner with three minutes left to give Wichita (20-8-1) a 7-5 win against the Evansville IceMen (15-9-2)at the Ford Center Saturday night.
Nick Schneider scored the first goal at 9:46 to give Evansville a 1-0 lead. Matt Summers (10) answered for the Thunder to tie the game at one just 30 seconds later. The Icemen regained the lead with a pair of power play goals, the first coming from Brian Bicek at 11:26 to make it 2-1. Todd Robinson added another one for Evansville on the man advantage two minutes later to make it 3-1. Thomas Beauregard (14) cut into the IceMen lead with a goal at 19:19 to make it 3-2 on a beautifully executed three-on-two.
In the second period, Wichita scored two goals just nine seconds apart to take its first lead of the game. The first came from RG Flath at 4:32 when he tipped in a Kevin Seibel shot from the blue line to tie the game at three. At 4:41, Chris Chappell won a face-off, dished it off to Matt Summers (11) and he buried it to give Wichita a 4-3 lead. Four minutes later, Brian Bicek tied the game when he stole the puck at his own blue line, raced down all alone and scored a shorthanded goal to even things up at four.
Evansville's Malcolm Gwilliam scored at 3:41 of the third period to give the IceMen a 5-4 lead. Wichita scored the next three as Matt Summers (12) notched the hat trick at 13:07 to tie the game at five as he came in on the rush, faked a pass and put it in the back of the net. Thomas Beauregard (15) gave Wichita the lead for good at 17:29 as he came along the goal line and muscled the puck past IceMen goalie Bryan Gillis. Aaron Davis (13) got pulled down on a break-a-way as he was looking for an empty net and was awarded the goal to give Wichita a 7-5 win. The Thunder have won their last three and improved to 9-2-1 against the Turner Conference. Wichita remains one point ahead of Allen in first place in the Berry Conference.
