Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (13-12-4) finished 2011 on high note with a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Sundogs (9-16-5) on Saturday night. Brandon Campos, Scott Balan, Aaron Lee and Tomas Klempa all scored while Wylie Rogers made 28 saves in net.

A physical first period saw three fights between the two teams but the Bees would put one up on the big board as Brandon Campos scored a power-play goal with 24.9 seconds remaining in the first period. Craig Lineker picked up the assist on the deflection goal.

The Killer Bees added a pair of second period strikes to increase their lead. At 16:27 of the second Tomas Klempa and Scott Balan came in on a two-on-one. Klempa fed the puck across to Balan who backhanded it to the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Just moments later Aaron Lee deflected a neutral zone pass and brought the puck in on a breakaway and beat Arizona goalie Mike Spillane blocker side for his 15th goal of the season.

Arizona would rally for two strikes including one by former Killer Bee Daymen Rycroft. For Rycroft it was his 200th goal of his career, 63 of which came with the Killer Bees.

Throughout the rest of the third period the Sundogs would continue to pepper Wylie Rogers and the Bees defense but the line held and Tomas Klempa added an empty net goal to seal the Bees 4-2 victory.

The Killer Bees are back in action Tuesday night as they play their final game at Tim's Toyota Center. Puck drops at 8:05 p.m.
