Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (8-9) extended their winning streak to a season-high three games Friday night, defeating the Toledo Mud Hens (13-6) by a 9-6 score.

Louisville's offense was on fire tonight, tying their season-high with 15 hits and setting a new high with nine runs scored. The Bats took a three-run lead in the top of the first inning, led by Nick Senzel's two-run home run as the game's second batter, knocking in Mason Williams for his second home run in his Triple-A career.

Senzel went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in, all Triple-A highs for the number seven ranked prospect in all of baseball.

Five different Louisville batters registered at least two hits: Senzel, Williams, Tyler Goeddel, D.J. Peterson and Brandon Dixon. Outfielder Phillip Ervin also had a productive game in his first start with Louisville since being optioned from Cincinnati, going 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.

Right-handed starter Jackson Stephens (1-1, 5.89) notched his first victory of the season, going 5.1 innings and giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits, walking three and striking out five. He threw 97 pitches, 66 for strikes, before right-handers Zach Neal and Tanner Rainey combined for 3.2 innings of one-run ball in relief.

Louisville would give up its lead briefly in the bottom of the third, allowing the Mud Hens to score four runs and take a 4-3 lead, before the Bats put together their best offensive inning of the season in the top of the sixth, scoring six runs to take a 9-4 lead.

The Bats look to clinch the series win Saturday night at Fifth Third Field with right-hander José López (0-2, 5.28) on the hill for Louisville, with lefty Josh Turley (1-0, 3.12) set to pitch for the Mud Hens with first pitch set for 5:05 p.m.
