Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY- The Ottawa Lynx used a solid start by Matt Childers to pick up a win against the Bats on the second Education Day of the season at Louisville Slugger Field Wednesday afternoon. Thousands of local students filed in to see a closely contested game, with Childers (4-1, 2.31) picking up a 5-2 victory. Mike Gosling (0-2, 2.76) took the loss for the Bats.

It wasn't until the fifth inning when the Lynx were able to get on the scoreboard, taking advantage of a walk and two singles by Childers and Chris Roberson, with catcher Jason Jaramillo scoring on Roberson's line drive to center-field. Lou Collier went 3-for-3 for Ottawa with two RBI, and Danny Sandoval hit a solo home run in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Louisville got on the board in the seventh when Dewayne Wise started a two-out rally with a single to right field. Aaron Herr then ripped a double to left scoring Wise, and Herr went on to score on a Mark Bellhorn single. Ryan Jorgensen followed up his 2-for-5 outing Monday with three hits in four at bats. Joey Votto went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.

The Bats squandered opportunities throughout the game. Twice they left runners on the corners, and in the sixth left the bases loaded. Credit Childers, who struck out the side in the fourth and got out of a one out bases-loaded jam, by striking out Jorgensen and pinch hitter Earl Snyder in the sixth. In the eighth, Ottawa pitcher Kane Davis got out of another bases-loaded jam by inducing Mike Edwards into an inning ending double play. Davis got the save for Ottawa in two innings of work.

The final head-to-head match-up for these two teams is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:05. The probable starters are Louisville's LHP Phil Dumatrait (4-1, 2.34) and Ottawa's LHP Brian Mazone (3-2, 2.21). Tomorrow is Budweiser Happy Hour and beers may be purchased for $1 from 5:30 until 7:00.
