Asheville Tourists News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - On a night where the Charleston RiverDogs honored Mitch Holligoss, the player with the longest hitting streak in the history of the South Atlantic League, Asheville could not buy a hit. Holligoss registered a hit in 38 straight games as a member of the 2007 RiverDogs and the Tourists could have used a few of those tonight.
Asheville recorded only two hits in the loss; a first inning single by Shael Mendoza and a second inning double off the bat of Ryan Vilade. After the second inning, Asheville only managed to put a runner aboard in one more inning; that came on a hit by pitch.
Nick Kennedy pitched well to start the game but surrendered a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings. Erick Julio and Derrik Watson kept the home team from scoring over the final three frames.
Asheville had a chance to take control from the start. The Tourists had runners at second and third with no outs in the top of the first inning; however, Dalton Lehnen retired the next three batters while stranding a pair in scoring position.
After Vilade's second inning double, Ryan ended up at third on a wild pitch. Vilade was there with one out but once again the Tourists failed to capitalize on scoring the game's first run.
The series is now tied 1-1 with the rubber matched scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05pm.
