Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
ROME, GA - Will Stewart gave up one run over seven innings and Daniel Brito drove in three runs as the BlueClaws topped Rome 5-2 on Wednesday night at State Mutual Stadium.
The win comes one night after Rome topped the BlueClaws 5-2 in the first game of their three-game series. The BlueClaws improve to 15-11 on the year while Rome falls to 15-10.
Stewart, pitching 120 miles from his home town of Hazel Green, Alabama, became the first BlueClaws starter to finish seven innings in a game this year. In improving to 3-0, the southpaw allowed one run four hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the third inning when Daniel Brito's groundout brought home Gregori Rivero, the first of three times Brito would drive in Rivero tonight.
Brito brought in Rivero in the fifth with an RBI single one batter before Jake Scheiner hit an inside-the-park home run to put the BlueClaws up 4-1. It was Scheiner's second home run of the season and the first inside-the-park home run by the BlueClaws since Roman Quinn hit one on April 9, 2013 at FirstEnergy Park.
Brito drove home Rivero for a third time in the seventh with an RBI single to put Lakewood up 5-1. Addison Russ got the last six outs, allowing his first run of the season.
Rivero and Brito each had two hits while Brito picked up his first three-RBI game of the year after he had two last year with Lakewood.
The teams play the final game of their three-game series on Wednesday morning at 10:30 am. RHP Spencer Howard (2-1) starts for the BlueClaws opposite LHP Kyle Muller (2-0).
