Legends Unable to Catch Fireflies in Game Two Loss

SPIRIT COMMUNICATIONS PARK (Columbia, SC) - The Lexington Legends and Columbia Fireflies met in Columbia, South Carolina for a mid-day affair for game two of the three game series. The Fireflies jumped out to an early lead, then plated four runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth, to beat the Legends in game two, 9-1. Lexington's record drops to 13-11, and the Fireflies snap a five-game losing streak, improving their record to 13-13.

In the bottom of the first inning, Legends starter, Collin Snider, hit back-to-back batters, allowing Blake Tiberi and Matt Winaker to reach base. Jeremy Vasquez then roped a two-run double down the right field line, putting the Fireflies ahead, 2-0.

The Legends scored their only run of the game in the fourth inning. Oliver Nunez singled to left field then moved to second when Seuly Matias singled to right field. Travis Jones brought home Nunez, and the Legends were on the board, 2-1.

The Fireflies would go on to score four runs in the fourth. Scott Manea was walked then moved to second on a single to left field by Raphael Gladu. With runners at first and second, Hansel Moreno lined a two-run triple off the right field wall, extending Columbia's lead, 4-1. Giovanny Alfonzo hit a sacrifice fly to Legends centerfielder, Cal Jones, scoring Moreno from third. Matt Winaker then stepped up and blasted his first professional home run over the right field wall and Columbia led, 6-1.

In the fifth, Rigoberto Terrazas hit a groundball to Lexington's third baseman, Nunez, who committed an error on the throw to first, and Terrazas was safe. Manea was then walked, moving Terrazas to second. Gladu recorded his second hit of the afternoon, an RBI double to right field, while advancing Manea to third. Lexington reliever, Holden Capps, delivered a wild pitch, allowing Gladu to score. Moreno then lined a single to left field, plating Moreno. The Fireflies went on to hold on to their 9-1 lead for the rest of the game.

Collin Snider (1-3, 7.89 ERA) was given the loss and Marcel Renteria (2-1, 3.86 ERA) was awarded the win. Holden Capps pitched 1.0 inning of relief, allowing three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two. Sal Biasi tossed the final three innings, and did not allow a hit, while striking out five and walking one.

The series finale is tomorrow, May 3 at 7:05 p.m. at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia. The Legends will LHP Daniel Tillo (0-1, 3.52 ERA) to face RHP Tony Dibrell (0-1, 6.41 ERA) for the Fireflies.
