Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC--The Kannapolis Intimidators (16-10) used a six-run fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run double from Craig Dedelow, to blow past the Hickory Crawdads 9-6 on a Wednesday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health.
The Crawdads (8-16) put up the first crooked number in the third inning off Kannapolis starter Kade McClure (W, 3-0), using a leadoff double from Tyler Ratliff, followed by a Justin Jacobs single up the middle to score the first run for the 'Dads. Still in the second, McClure issued back-to-back walks, allowing Eric Jenkins to hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Yonny Hernandez to give Hickory a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, Dedelow smacked his second triple of the season on a sharp fly ball to center field with no outs, one of his three hits on the day. Two batters later, second baseman Tate Blackman lifted the fifth pitch of his at-bat deep to right field, scoring Dedelow to cut the lead in half, 2-1.
After getting a taste of the scoreboard in the fourth, Kannapolis jumped all over Tyree Thompson (L, 1-3) in the fifth, as Johan Cruz set the precedent for the long inning with an eight-pitch at-bat, resulting in a walk. Luis Gonzalez stepped up to the plate two batters later, collecting his second of three hits on the day with a single up the middle, putting runners at first and second with one out. After being clunked by a 1-1 pitch, Laz Rivera raced home, along with Cruz and Gonzalez, as Dedelow connected on his team-high eighth double of the season, tying the game, 4-4.
A couple batters later, the Intimidators tagged on more runs in the fifth, as both Justin Yurchak and Evan Skoug joined in on the double party in the sixth, scoring runs five, six, and seven to give Kannapolis a 7-4 advantage.
After a few solid innings from Luis Ledo (H, 1) and Jose Nin (H, 1), striking out four batters in three innings between the two, the Intimidators scored two more insurance runs in the eighth, highlighted by a Michael Hickman double that scored Rivera and Dedelow for the eighth and ninth runs of the game.
Making things in the ninth inning a little too close for comfort, Tyler Johnson was still able to close the door on the 'Dads to give the Intimidators and manager Justin Jirschele's a 9-6 win.
The Intimidators will look for their second sweep of the season as they host the Crawdads for the last game of the series at 6:35 p.m. Thursday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health.
