Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (9-14) dropped the series opener to the Norfolk Tides (13-11) by a 6-5 score in extra innings. It's the second time the Bats have given up a five-run lead to eventually lose the ballgame.

Louisville right-hander Jose Lopez (0-2, 5.26) pitched well enough to win in a no-decision, going 5.1 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and one home run, walking two and striking out four. He left the game with a 5-3 lead in the sixth.

Catcher Tony Cruz blasted a grand slam in the fourth inning, which gave the Bats a 5-0 lead after Stuart Turner's RBI single gave Louisville its first run of the night. Brandon Dixon notched a multi-hit game with a 3-for-5 effort with a double.

Nick Senzel left tonight's game in the bottom of the first inning.

Norfolk scored one run in the eighth and ninth inning, both off Louisville reliever Domingo Tapia, who was tagged with his second blown save of the season. The Tides won it on an Austin Wynns RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Wynns singled off Bats right-hander Ben Rowen, who lost his first game of the season.

The Bats have played back-to-back extra inning games for the first time since they played in three straight 10-inning games from May 5-7 at Toledo last season, going 1-2 in those games.

Louisville and Norfolk face off in game two of the series tomorrow at 7:05, with Bats left-hander Justin Nicolino (1-2, 3.60) set to go for the Bats and left-hander Chris Lee set to make his season debut for Norfolk tomorrow.
