THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY
1933 - In the Red Wings home opener 10,768 fans saw the Wings in victory as they beat Albany 6-5. The fans saw seven hits in the third inning and watched excellent play by the Red Wings all day. Buster Mills lead the way with three hits. Tony Kaufmann ended up with a no-decision for the Wings, going seven innings, giving up one hit.
1976 - After not playing a game in 11 days due to bad weather conditions both at home and on the road, the Red Wings swept the Richmond Braves in a double header at Parker Field. The wins catapulted Rochester into first place in the international league standings.
THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY
1961 - In a game at Toronto the hometown Maple Leafs score ten times in the 8th inning to put the finishing touches on a 15-3 triumph. Switch-hitting outfielder Ellis Burton etches his name in the IL Record Books by homering twice during the inning, once from each side of the plate. His first long ball is a two-run blast he hit batting left-handed. Later in the 8th he returns to the plate with the bases loaded and crushes a grand slam over the right-field fence from the right side of the plate. Both blasts score Burton's teammate and future Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson, who drew two walks in the inning. Burton would go on to a short Major League career with the Cubs and Indians, remembered for twice more hitting homers from each side of the plate in a game, though he never again accomplished the feat in the same inning.

1995 - David Bell makes his major league debut at third base for the Indians in a 14-7 victory over the Tigers.
