Beato Becomes All-Time Saves Leader in Pigs' Victory
May 3, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
A three-run blast by Joey Meneses in the top of the second inning proved to be the game winner in the Lehigh Valley IronPigs' 5-2 victory in Rochester. Pedro Beato tossed a scoreless ninth inning, recording his seventh save of the season and passing Luis Garcia as the IronPigs' all-time saves leader with 40.
Brandon Leibrandt continued his dominant 2018 campaign for Lehigh Valley. Entering with a 14-inning scoreless streak to begin the season, Leibrandt continued to keep International League bats at bay, tossing four scoreless innings and allowing just four hits while walking one.
The Pigs got on the board first as Meneses hit his second homer in as many days. This one was a three-run blast, put the IronPigs up 3-0 against Red Wings starter Aaron Slegers (2-1).
The Red Wings responded with two runs off of Jake Thompson in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game. Meneses countered with another RBI in the sixth before Roman Quinn extended his hitting streak to nine with a seventh-inning solo home run. Quinn is now one game away from matching Dean Anna (10) for the longest hitting streak by a Pig this season.
Meneses went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, improving his batting average to a team-leading .328.
Tom Windle (1-1) earned his first career Triple-A victory after tossing two perfect innings.
Beato tied Luis Garcia for the Pigs' all-time saves lead after closing out Wednesday morning's game against the Syracuse Chiefs. Already the single-season saves leader with 33, Beato tossed a scoreless ninth inning and struck out one to record his record-breaking save.
The Pigs and Red Wings resume their four-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Frontier Field. Enyel De Los Santos looks to improve to 3-0 on the season against DJ Baxendale.
