Lancaster Stormers News Release

Blake Gailen ripped two doubles and a home run behind seven strong innings from Brian Grening in a 6-2 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish Monday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Travis Denker and Ryan Harvey also connected for the Barnstormers, who took their third from the Bluefish in the four-game series.

The Bluefish struck first, taking advantage of an extra out in the third inning. Daniel Mayora reached with one man down on a bobble by shortstop Olmo Rosario. Grening (3-2) retired Austin Krum on a line drive to second baseman Kevin Howard, but Alexis Gomez clipped the right-hander for a two-run homer onto the picnic tents for a 2-0 lead.

Prentice Redman followed with a bloop double to left, but Grening retired Luis Lopez on a fly to right to end the inning.

Bridgeport would not get another runner into scoring position against Grening, who yielded five hits and one walk in seven innings.

Lancaster knotted the game in a hurry. Kody Kirkland tripled into the left field corner with one out in the bottom of the third inning. Gailen drove him home with a double into the right center gap. Rosario then delivered Gailen with a single into left, taking second on the throw home. Lancaster could make nothing else out of the third but went ahead with two outs in the fifth as Gailen screamed his home run over the right field tents.

Mike Parisi (1-6) squirmed out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh, but Denker, who had a home run overturned in the first inning, launched a two-run blast to right with Gailen aboard in the seventh to widen the gap to three. Harvey drove a Micky Jannis pitch onto the hillside in left center for the night's final run in the eighth.

The Barnstormers entertain Southern Maryland to start a three-game series on Tuesday. Will Savage (3-2) will open the game for Lancaster against right-hander Gaby Hernandez (0-7). Lawn seats are just $2.00. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Gailen had his first three-hit game of the season...He is hitting .347 since being moved into the leadoff role...Harvey pulled back to within three of Somerset's Jake Fox for the league home run lead...Grening's ERA dropped to 2.09, good for second in the league...Nate Reed extended his streak of scoreless innings to 12 2/3 over his last 10 appearances.
