York Revolution News Release
Dan Lyons' groundout in the top of the ninth inning drove in the decisive run as the Long Island Ducks denied the York Revolution a four-game sweep, taking the series finale 3-2 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday evening. The Revs' winning streak is snapped at six consecutive games, as they'll look to bounce back when they host the Sugar Land Skeeters in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
York led 2-0 after scoring a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Wilson Batista (2-for-4, nine-game hitting streak) opened the scoring with an RBI double off the left-center wall. He then stole third and scored as Cody Johnson singled through the right side of a drawn-in infield.
Revs starter Nick Green was cruising, taking a one-hitter into the sixth inning. He had retired 11 straight before Danny Perales led off the sixth with a home run to right, breaking up the shutout. Josh Barfield followed with a broken bat double to left, and scored the tying run as Ben Broussard singled up the middle, erasing York's lead and evening things at 2-2. Green worked 6.2 innings and allowed two runs, taking his sixth no-decision as his record remained at 3-0.
Long Island set the table for the go-ahead run in the ninth. With one out, Adam Bailey singled to right and advanced to second when right fielder Eric Patterson inadvertently kicked the ball. Ralph Henriquez then walked, and Murray Watts reached on an error by first baseman Brian Burgamy, loading the bases. Lyons then bounced a chopper over the mound, as shortstop Batista's only play was to first base, with Bailey scoring an unearned run to give the Ducks the ninth inning lead.
York made a run at tying the game in their last at-bat, as Ruddy Yan led off with a single to center, took second on a wild pitch, and moved to third on a groundout by Salvador Paniagua. But with the tying run at third and one out, Ducks closer Leo Rosales struck out pinch-hitter Jeff Fiorentino and retired Patterson on a fly ball to right to end the game, securing his ninth save.
Long Island reliever Jared Lansford (2-1) worked a 1-2-3 eighth to earn the win, while Revs lefty Edward Paredes (0-1) was charged with the go-ahead run in the ninth, suffering the loss.
The Revs fall to 25-20, as 12 of their 20 losses have been decided by one run. The loss also snapped a five-game head-to-head winning streak against the Ducks, as they are now 7-3 against Long Island for the season.
Long Island pitchers held York's second through fourth hitters to a combined 0-for-10. Those three hitters (Andres Perez, Brian Burgamy, Andy Marte) had gone a combined 23-for-42 in the first three games of the series. Perez lost a nine-game hitting streak, held hitless in three at-bats.
York 's Pedro Liriano (2-0, 6.75) will start Tuesday's opener against Sugar Land's Matt Wright (5-0, 2.25) at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
