Bats Cold as Cutters Topped by Vermont

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: July 27, 2011 - The Williamsport Crosscutters had their three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night, as they tallied just six hits in a 4-1 loss at home versus Vermont.

The Lake Monsters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Nick Rickles. Rickles and Sam Roberts delivered RBI singles in the fourth inning to increase Vermont's lead to 3-0.

The score would stay that way until the top of the ninth inning, when Rickles doubled and later scored on another RBI single by Roberts to make it a 4-0 game.

Williamsport managed a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as they loaded the bases with one out for Brock Stassi. Stassi's sacrifice fly to right scored Aaron Altherr to cut Vermont's lead to 4-1, but Cody Asche struck out with two runners on to end the ballgame.

Cutters starter Colin Kleven took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over four innings. Lake Monsters starter Brent Powers earned his first win after hurling five shutout frames.
