Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Viosergy Rosa had four hits including his ï¬Ârst homer of the season, and the Jammers scored ï¬Âve runs in the fourth inning to best Aberdeen, 8-3, Wednesday night at Diethrick Park.
The Jamestown ï¬Ârst baseman went 4-for-4 with two singles, a double, and the solo shot to power the Jammer offense that had struggled in Vermont, while the entire team got in on the act in the fourth inning as they batted around. The win keeps the purple and green in a three-way tie for ï¬Ârst place with Auburn and Mahoning Valley with identical 22-17 records.
Austin Barnes also contributed two hits with his ï¬Ârst long ball of the season. Josh Adams chipped in with a double, and Terrence Dayleg delivered a pair of singles for a Jamestown offense that pounded out 12 hits.
The Jammers got on the board in the third inning when Rosa led off with a double to center. He then moved to third on a grounder by Pedro Mendoza before scoring on Marquise Cooper's liner to center.
However, Aberdeen would immediately answer with a run of their own in the fourth.
After getting the ï¬Ârst two outs, Dejai Oliver gave up a single, hit a batter and walked another to load the bases before getting relieved by Tom Peale. In his ï¬Ârst relief appearance since the season opener, Peale walked Kyle Hoppy to force in a run and tie the game before escaping the jam.
That walk would be the last positive sign for Aberdeen all night as Jamestown sent 10 men to the dish in the bottom of the inning. A wild pitch scored a run before Rosa and Ryan Goetz both ripped two-run singles to make it 6-1 Jamestown.
From there, the Jammers would be in cruise control as they tacked on insurance runs.
Barnes crushed a towering ï¬ây with one out in the seventh for his round tripper, while Rosa drilled his to the deepest part of Diethrick Park in the eighth to up the lead to seven.
Aberdeen would score two runs in the ninth inning, but Alfredo Buret came on for one out to slam the door and preserve the Jamestown victory.
Tom Peale earned the win in relief of Oliver after throwing 2.1 innings, striking out one and walking one. Brad Mincey also pitched two shutout frames for Jamestown.
Matt Hobgood took the loss for the IronBirds, while Orchard Park's Kyle Hoppy collected two hits and drove in two runs. Austin Knight chipped in two hits and two runs.
The two teams will be back in action Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Diethrick Park.
