Auburn Doubledays News Release

Auburn, NY - Once again, Auburn's pitching was phenomenal. Brad Meyers, in his second rehab start from AAA-Syracuse pitched four innings of one run, two hit baseball. Brian Dupra took over, giving up just one hit in four innings before giving way to Ben Grisz who pitched a scoreless ninth in the Doubledays 3-1 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades on Wednesday night at Falcon Park.

A pitchers' duel from the game's first pitch, Auburn starter Brad Meyers and Renegades' starter Ryan Carpenter both held down the opposition. Carpenter didn't allow a hit in his five innings of work, and impressive feat for the seventh round pick out of Gonzaga, who was making his first professional start.

Hudson Valley scored the game's first run when nine hitter, Raymond Church, singled to left field, scoring Leonardo Raginatto from third base in the third inning. With Carpenter on the mound, the Doubledays had no answer for the dominant lefty.

Once Carpenter left the game, the Doubledays woke up. Brooks Belter surrendered a single to the first batter he faced, Connor Rowe. Jeremy Mayo drew a walk to put two men on, and then Hendry Jimenez blooped a single to centerfield, loading the bases with nobody out. Bryce Ortega then singled on a line drive to right field, plating one run and keeping the bases loaded. A sac fly by Matt Skole drove in another run and an RBI groundout by Justin Miller gave the Doubledays their third run of the game.

From there, the pitching took over. Brian Dupra and Ben Grisz worked the final five innings of the game, giving up just two hits in that span, securing a 3-1 win for the Doubledays.

With the win, the Auburn Doubledays stayed in a tie for first place in the Pinckney Division alongside Jamestown and Mahoning Valley, who both won on Wednesday night.

Thursday night, Auburn looks to win their third straight series when they meet the Doubledays for game two of a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm on "Dollar Thursday" night at Falcon Park, where fans can get a 12-ounce beer, 12-ounce soda, hot dog and peanuts for only one dollar each.
