FRESNO, Calif. - Condor defenseman Scott Basiuk capped his All- Star Week with 18 minutes of ice time during the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game and helped the National Conference All-Stars pick up a 7-6 victory over the American Conference in front of 7,667 fans at Fresno's Save Mart Center.

This was the first All-Star Game Basiuk has taken part of at any level, and the experience was new on many levels for the Bakersfield.

"The laid back attitude stands out," said the 6- foot-2, 205 pound defenseman Basiuk. "Everyone's easy to get along with in this kind of setting, and it helps me get to know the other players better."

Basiuk's All-Star Week included his participation in the ECHL Skills Competition on Tuesday night. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native competed in the Rapid Fire event alongside Alaska defenseman Ryan Gaucher against Wheeling goaltender Andy Franck. Basiuk beat Franck on three of his five shots to help the National Conference on their way to a 15-8 win in the Skills Competition. Basiuk also took a shot as part of the Breakaway Relay event and was stopped by Johnstown netminder Jonathan Boutin.

In the All-Star Game, Basiuk logged over 18 minutes of ice time in the game and was on the ice for the National Conference's second goal in the first period. "I got to skate with so many talented defensemen such as Gaucher, [Steve] Lingren from Victoria, and [Dustin] VanBallegooie here in Fresno," said Basiuk. "You don't realize how good they are until you pay with them."

Basiuk was also on the ice for the game's closing seconds after the American Conference scored twice with the extra skater in the final 1:17 to make it a one-goal game. "I tried to take it upon myself not to do too much, but I was surprised with the emphasis on defense in the first two periods," said Basiuk. "I just wanted to keep doing what got me to the All- Star Game."

Basiuk was named to the National Conference roster on January 20th as a replacement for the injured James Laux of the Utah Grizzlies.

The National Conference defeated the American Conference by a final score of 7-6 thanks to All-Star Game MVP Luke Curtin of the Fresno Falcons, who scored two goals within 20 seconds of each other in the first minute of the third period. Victoria's Steve Lingren scored the game-winning goal at 11:50 of a third period that saw a combined total of 8 goals between the two teams. Fresno's Brett Jaeger was the winning goaltender, stopping 17 shots on 20 American attempts in the third period.

The Condors travel to Utah this weekend for their Friday and Saturday night contests with the Grizzlies before returning home for a January 31st showdown with the Alaska Aces. All high school and college students presenting a current student ID at the Rabobank Arena box office will receive $1 terrace admission courtesy of the WB-12 and 106.1 KRAB Radio.
