CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Presbyterian Hospital President & CEO Carl Armato stood on the ice flanked by Tom DeFeo, Jack Trouten and Rob Ingersoll (all of Microsoft Corporation,) Pat Campbell (Executive Director or Women's & Children's Services at Presbyterian Hospital,) and Jeff Longo (Charlotte Checkers President) on Saturday night to accept a $100,000.00 check made out to Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital. The funds raised were the result of the Checkers' annual Hemby Cup hockey game played on the ice between teams representing Microsoft and area banks.

Also on the ice for the check presentation were Troy Stanek and Blake Burgess from Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital and a loyal volunteer.

Affectionately referred to on the scoreboard as the "Suits" and "Geeks," the players were ex-college and pro hockey players who gave it their all for the good of the children's hospital named for the Hemby family.

This year's Hemby Cup far surpassed the 2005 check for $60,000 and, according to Checkers President Jeff Longo, "This is one of the most important projects in which we're involved each year and is just the tip of the iceberg. We plan to continue to host the Hemby Cup and to help grow it. The kids at Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital deserve no less."
