Stockton Thunder News Release
FRESNO, Calif. * Stockton Thunder left wing Mike Lalonde tallied a goal and two assists while goaltender Jake Moreland's second period shutout guided the National Conference to a 7-6 victory over the American Conference in the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game presented by Bud Light, before 7,667 at Save Mart Center on Wednesday night.
Former Atlantic City Boardwalk Bully forward Luke Curtin (Fresno Falcons) collected two goals to begin the third period, garnering All-Star Game MVP honors.
Lalonde took honors of scoring the game's first goal, snapping a left-circle one-timer past Wheeling Nailers goalie Andy Franck at the first period's 12:36 mark. A goal by Phoenix's Shawn Snider 2:11 later made it 2-0, before Florida's Ernie Hartlieb and Luke Fulghum (Pensacola IcePilots) countered with two markers in 50 seconds for the Americans to knot the game at 2-2.
Moreland then took over the second period with 12 saves, displaying an array of acrobatic stops to earn credit of posting the game's lone shutout period. Alaska's Alex Leavitt put the National Conference up 3-2, netting a rebound from the slot with 12:58 gone.
In a wild third period that featured a combined eight goals between both teams, Lalonde picked up two assists on Curtin's second goal and Long Beach Ice Dog Christian Larrivee's marker at 3:56, helping put the game out-of-reach at a 6-2 National Conference lead. Trenton's Scott Bertoli, Fulghum (hat trick) and Gwinnett's Jeff Campbell finished the scoring for the Americans, while Steve Lingren (Victoria Salmon Kings) pumped in the final marker for the National Conference.
