
Barracuda Take Down Reign in Series Finale, 5-1

San Jose, CA - The Ontario Reign (33-20-10-0) fell to the San Jose Barracuda (42-14-2-5), 5-1, at SAP Center Wednesday night in their eighth and final regular-season meeting. Forward T.J. Hensick scored the lone goal for the Reign, who finish the head-to-head series with a 3-4-1-0 record. Game Summary The Barracuda peppered the Reign in the opening period, earning a 16-9 shot lead through 20 minutes. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (L, 33 saves on 38 shots) kept the contest scoreless moving into the first intermission. Midway through the frame, San Jose held a 14-1 shot advantage. In the second stanza, Barracuda forward Timo Meier opened the scoring at 9:52, lifting a shot over the blocker of Zatkoff from the top of the left-wing circle. Late in the period, Meier, who was reassigned to the Barracuda by the San Jose Sharks (NHL) earlier today, picked up his second goal of the contest and 14 of the season at 16:32.
Reign forward T.J. Hensick pulled the game within one with a power-play goal at 7:08 of the third period from Zach Leslie and Teddy Purcell, beating Barracuda goalie Troy Grosenick (W, 23 saves on 24 shots). Moments later the Barracuda began a stretch of three quick goals to take a 5-1 advantage to seal the victory. Defenseman Tim Heed made it 3-1 with a blast from the right point at 13:31, forward Buddy Robinson raced past the defense and Zatkoff at 15:57 and forward Adam Helewka completed a 2-on-1 rush and the game scoring at 16:45.
The Reign finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while the Barracuda went 0-for-3.
