Agostino, Megan Named to AHL First All-Star Team
April 6, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
GLENVIEW, Ill. - The American Hockey League announced Thursday that Chicago Wolves left wing Kenny Agostino and center Wade Megan have been named to the 2016-17 AHL First All-Star Team.
Both skaters are enjoying a career year in their first season with the Wolves. Agostino leads the AHL in scoring with 79 points and assists with 57, which are both career-bests for the 24-year-old. Megan shares the league lead in goals with 31 and has already surpassed all of his previous career-highs in points (60), goals and assists (29).
The announcement marks the first time the Wolves have had an AHL First All-Star Team Team member since the 2013-14 campaign when goaltender Jake Allen was named to the squad. Chicago has not placed two players on the AHL First All-Star Team since 2006-07 when Darren Haydar and Brett Sterling were the wings.
Agostino has skated in 63 games this season and registered 20 multi-point performances, which includes a five-point performance - four goals and an assist - on Dec. 31 against the Iowa Wild. The feat made him the first AHL player of the season to record five points in a game, and he joined Dan Currie, Nigel Dawes and Steve Larouche as the only players in the Wolves' 23-year history to score four goals in one game.
That accomplishment was the exclamation point on an already stellar month for the Yale University graduate. With 25 points in 14 games during December, Agostino was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month. In that span, he was held scoreless just once and registered six multi-point performances.
Megan has appeared in 68 games this season for Chicago and ranks fifth in league scoring with 60 points (31G, 29A). The 26-year-old leads the Wolves in both short-handed goals (3) and plus/minus rating (+23). His plus/minus rating is the best for a skater wearing a Chicago uniform since Pat Cannone logged a +24 rating during the 2013-14 campaign.
The Canton, New York, native has recorded 16 multi-point performances, including a four-point (3G, A) showing on Dec. 28 against the Rockford IceHogs. The Boston University Terriers captain's three goals in that contest marked his first professional hat trick.
In his fifth year of professional hockey, Megan also scored his first National Hockey League goal in his NHL debut on Dec. 26 with the St. Louis Blues.
Both players will be available when the Wolves face the Iowa Wild at Allstate Arena on Saturday, April 8. Game time is 7 p.m., and it will be broadcast on CW50 throughout the Chicago area. The Wolves will also host their annual Military Appreciation Night, presented by Sears Home Services.
The Wolves wrap their season series with the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday (April 9). The Illinois Lottery Cup clash starts at 4 p.m. and will air on CW50. The first 5,000 fans to enter the arena will receive a cellphone wallet, presented by DecisionOne Dental Partners.
