San Jose Barracuda News Release
Bakersfield, Ca - The San Jose Barracuda (26-10-2-4) entered Friday's game at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield hoping to end the Bakersfield Condors (27-15-2-1) (Edmonton Oilers) 10-game winning streak but after San Jose opened up the scoring in the first, the Condors would score three-second period goals en-route to a 3-1 win.
After failing to score on an early power play, the Barracuda found a way to draw first blood at full-strength. After the Condors couldn't clear their own end along the left point, Nick DeSimone shoveled a pass to Rourke Chartier in the slot and Chartier fed the puck immediately to the near doorstep where Antti Suomela (3) swiped in the pass at 8:51.
In the second, the Condors waited just a minute and 17 seconds to even the score as Ryan Spooner threaded a feed from the left half-wall to Joe Gambardella (22) and Gambardella deflected the pass in from atop the crease. The Condors would take their first lead at 9:11 as Josh Currie (20) had his initial shot blocked before immediately pulling the trigger again along the right wing, beating Josef Korenar over the right shoulder. Currie would get involved again as he snapped a shot under Korenar's left arm from the slot and as the puck dribbled past San Jose's netminder, Tyler Benson (7) jammed in Bakersfield's third goal of the period to give the Condors a 3-1 lead.
In the third, San Jose twice hit the post and twice got pucks behind Bakersfield's Shane Starrett but couldn't get another goal to go as Bakersfield held on for the 3-1 win.
Korenar (16-5-1) suffered the defeat after allowing three goals on 25 shots, while Starett (15-3-3) made 28 saves on 29 shots to earn his ninth-straight win.
The Barracuda are back in action on Sunday as they take on the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena before returning back to SAP Center on Tuesday when the Tucson Roadrunners come to town.
