San Jose Barracuda News Release
TUCSON, ARIZ. - The San Jose Barracuda (27-24-4-3) entered Wednesday's tilt against the Tucson Roadrunners (35-18-5-1) winless on their four-game road trip but ended their desert swing with a 4-3 overtime win at the Tucson Convention Center.
After getting shutout on Tuesday, the Barracuda were able to take an opening-period lead when Rourke Chartier wrapped around a loose puck from behind the net, and Colby McAuley (3) jammed home the rebound along the goal line at 8:16. Less than a minute later at 8:47, Brandon Mashinter (9) made it 2-0 as he spun a backhander past Adin Hill from the low slot.
In the second, Mike Sislo (23) would inch the Roadrunners within one as he snapped a shot off the near post and in from atop the left dot at 3:18. Despite getting outshot 12-to-three in the period, the Barracuda would push its lead back up to a pair on the power play as Manny Wiederer (6) shoveled in a rebound after Mashinter's charge to the net was stopped by Hill.
In the third, Joel Hanley (1) beat Antoine Bibeau through the five-hole as the Barracuda failed to clear the puck from its end at 4:42, and then down by a goal and with their net pulled, Carter Camper (15) snaked through San Jose's defense and backhanded the equalizer inside the far post at 18:43.
In overtime, Sislo was called for interference, and on the power play Bibeau raced out of his net, whipped a pass from his end to Mashinter at the Tucson blueline, and Mashinter threaded the puck to Jake Middleton (4) who snapped a shot inside the left post at 2:07 of the extra session.
Bibeau (19-13-3) earned the win by making 31 saves. On the other end. Hill (16-10-4) suffered the loss after giving up four goals on 18 San Jose shots.
The Barracuda return home on Saturday, March 24 to take on the Ontario Reign at 5:30 p.m. for '90s Nickelodeon Night featuring Legends of the Hidden Temple Blue Barracudas specialty jerseys that can be bid on during the game on the concourse.
