
Barons Skewer Fish in 6-3 Win

Birmingham, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons won their second game in a row over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, winning by a score of 6-3 in front of 4,045 fans at Regions Field.
Pensacola took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Yorman Rodriguez stole third base and scored when catcher Kevan Smith's throw sailed into left field.
The Barons used the long ball to take their first lead of the game, getting a solo blast from Dan Black in the bottom of the third that hit off the top of the roof of the NAPA Batting Cage in right field. Kevan Smith followed an inning later with a solo shot of his own, giving the Barons a 2-1 lead. Chris Curley extended the lead later in the inning with a sacrifice fly scoring Jason Coats against Pensacola starter Ben Lively.
Barons' starter Francellis Montas settled in after the first inning run and finished with just one hit allowed over 5.0 IP in his first Double-A start.
Pensacola rallied to tie the game at 3-3 with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, TravisMattair's RBI single cut the Barons lead to 3-2 and in the seventh, Ryan Wright's RBI single tied the game. Both runs came against reliever David Cales.
The Barons took the lead for good with three runs in the eighth. Joey DeMichele plated Adam Heisler with an RBI single giving the Barons a 4-3 lead. Trayce Thompson followed a batter later with a two-run double extending the lead to 6-3.
Reliever Kevin Vance (7-4, 4.48) picked up his team-leading seventh win allowing just one hit and striking out seven over 2.2 scoreless IP.
With the win the Barons who improved to 60-78 on the season and 31-37 in the second half while Pensacola fell to 58-80 on the year and 27-41 in the second half.
The Barons will look to pick up a series victory in their final series of the 2014 season tomorrow afternoon as RHP Terance Marin (0-1, 9.00) takes the hill against RHP Robert Stephenson (6-10, 4.93). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT.
