Birmingham Barons News Release

The Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that RHP Francellis Montas has been promoted from Class A Wiston-Salem. Roster at 24.

Montas, 21, was acquired by the White Sox from the Boston Red Sox organization as part of a three-team trade including the Detroit Tigers on July 30, 2013. The trade sent RHP Jake Peavy to Boston with the White Sox also receiving outfielder Avisail Garcia, infielder Cleuluis Rondon and RHP J.B. Wendelken.

In 10 starts with the Dash this season, Montas went 4-0 with a 1.60 ERA (11 ER/62.0 IP) with 56 strikeouts while being named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 19-25. He was placed on the disabled list following a start on June 26 where he suffered a right knee injury. He was activated from the disabled list today prior to joining the Barons.

Montas is scheduled to start in Sunday's 3:00 PM CDT game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Regions Field. It will be his first career appearance at the Double-A level.
