Mobile BayBears News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Mobile BayBears opened up the final five game series of the 2014 regular season on a sour note Friday night. The BayBears (79-54) dropped their series opener against the Jacksonville Suns (77-59) by a final of 8-3 at Bragan Field. The defeat snapped a four game win streak for the BayBears but Mobile still maintains the best overall record in the league.
The Suns got off to a hot start, taking advantage of RHP Archie Bradley who struggled to find the strike zone from the get go. Bradley (2-3) would exit the game before the end of the very first inning having allowed five runs on just one hit while walking five batters and recording just one out before being relieved. When the first inning finally came to a close, the Suns had a 5-0 lead going.
Mobile would cut into the Jacksonville lead in the top of the second, plating two runners on two-run double from Dallas Tarleton to put that score at 5-2 in favor of the Suns. Mobile would draw within two runs when they pushed across anther run on a RBI double from Ryan Court in the seventh inning but Jacksonville again pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth on a Terrence Dayleg double for the eventual 8-3 final.
Despite the slow start by Bradley both RHP Bryan Woodall and RHP Jimmie Sherfy combine to shutout the Suns over 6.2 innings. The win was credited to RHP Jose Urena (13-8) who limited Mobile to just three runs, two earned on seven hits while striking out seven in seven innings on the mound.
The BayBears continue their five game series with Jacksonville for the final four games of the regular season before returning to Hank Aaron Stadium on September 4, for the start of the 2014 Southern League Playoffs.
