
BayBears Lamb Named 2014 Southern League MVP

MOBILE, AL - The Southern League and Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball club are pleased to announce that former Mobile BayBears third baseman Jake Lamb has been named the 2014 Southern League Most Valuable Player, as voted upon by the league's field managers, radio broadcasters and print media.
Born in Seattle, Washington, Lamb was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Washington where he was a three-time honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference selection and a 2010 Freshman All-America.
Honors in his minor league career include being selected as a Mid-Season All-Star in the California League in 2013 as well as in the Southern League in 2014, selection as Player of the Week three times (once in 2014) and selection as a member of the All-Prospect Team in the Arizona Fall League in 2013.
Lamb was also chosen as the third baseman for the Southern League's 2014 Post-Season All-Star team. Lamb was promoted to AAA Reno on August first and then to Arizona after five games. He still leads the Southern League in batting average for 2014 with .318 along with being second in the league for RBIs (79), on-base percentage (.399), slugging percentage (.551), third in doubles (35), and extra-base hits (54). He hit 14 homeruns and five triples for Mobile.
The BayBears continue their five game series with Jacksonville for the final four games of the regular season before returning to Hank Aaron Stadium on September 4, for the start of the 2014 Southern League Playoffs.
