
Barons Receive Two From Sharks

CLEVELAND - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Doug Murray and left wing Lukas Kaspar to the Cleveland Barons.
In 2004-05, Murray earned 23 points (6-17-23) in 54 games, with 12 (2-10-12) of his 23 points coming in his last 19 games. His five assists in the month of April tied Ryane Clowe for tops on the team and he led Barons defensemen with a +4 on home ice. The native of Bromma, Sweden also served as the Barons assistant captain for the season.
In 2003-04, Murray led Barons defensemen in first goals (4) and shooting percentage (.096), and tied for team lead among defensemen in power play goals (5). He earned 22 points (10-12-22) in 72 games over the course of the season and recorded three points (3-0-3) in nine postseason games. He led the Barons and tied among all AHL defensemen and AHL rookies with three power play goals during postseason.
Kaspar, a first-round draft pick (22nd overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, played his first season of North American hockey in 2004-2005 with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League. Among OHL rookies, he finished fourth in points (51), tied for fifth in assists (30), and sixth in goals (21). Additionally, his six power play goals were tied for fourth on the team. In the playoffs, he paced all rookies with 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists).
The Barons will open their 2005-06 Regular Season schedule on the National City Rink located in Gund Arena on Saturday, October 8th against the Rochester Americans at 7:05pm.
