Iowa Barnstormers News Release

Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Barnstormers used a balanced attack to overpower the visiting Peoria Pirates 77-40 at Wellmark Field in Des Moines Saturday night. With the victory, the Barnstormers improve to 6-3 on the season, while Peoria falls to 2-7. The 77 points by Iowa are a season-high.

The Stormers opened the game in record fashion, scoring the quickest touchdown in Barnstormer history when Dusty Kain recovered the opening kickoff in the end zone to put Iowa up 7 - 0 just seconds into the game. However, Peoria was quick to respond when Pirate quarterback, Luke Drone, connected with Moses Harris for an 18 yard touchdown pass to even the score at 7 - 7. Iowa quarterback Brian Villanueva didn't waste any time when he finally was able to line up behind center. Villanueva hit veteran Barnstormer Tim Dodge with a deep 30 yard touchdown on the offense's first play from scrimmage giving Iowa the lead at 13 - 7 with nearly ten minutes left to play in the first quarter.

The game remained close through the second quarter, but with just seconds to play before halftime, Villanueva hit Errick McCown with a quick strike along the boards. McCown snuck under a couple of defenders and managed to squeeze his way through for a 45 yard touchdown to close out the half with the Barnstormrers leading 36 - 27.

The second half was all Iowa as for the second week in a row Tim Dodge returned the opening kickoff for a score. The Barnstormers followed with scores on their next three possessions. Jordan Davis was Iowa's defensive star with two second half interceptions.

Next up for Iowa is a trip to Quad Cities next Saturday to take on the Steamwheelers (4-5). The Barnstormers then return home Saturday June 13th when they face the Green Bay Blizzard. Kickoff is 7:05pm. For information on group or individual tickets call the Barnstormers at 515.633.2255, or log on to www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
