Amarillo Venom News Release

Boise, ID - The Amarillo Dusters played tough, but ultimately could not overcome the Boise Burn Saturday night at the Qwest Arena, falling 51-40.

The opening drive went to the Dusters, who worked their way down field, until Dusters quarterback MATT BASSUENER threw a pass into the heart of the Burn defense. TERRENCE SANDERS would intercept the pass to kill the Dusters' run. In the ensuing Boise drive, quarterback TAYLOR THARP threw a 3-yard laser to wide receiver JOMO WILSON, giving Boise the 7-0 lead. The Duster offense would not back down on their next position, as Bassuener heaved a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver BRENT CRAFT to tie the game at 7. The scoring continued, as Boise tossed another touchdown pass to wide receiver NICHIREN FLOWERS streaking downfield. His 17-yard grab gave Boise the lead at the end of the first quarter 14-7.

The second quarter saw the Dusters score three times, as XAVIER HAIR and Brent Craft caught touchdown passes, while CARLOS DOWNEY rumbled his way into the endzone for his first touchdown run of the season. The player of the game, Boise's defensive back Terrence Sanders, would score the Burn's first kickoff return for a touchdown on the season, giving Boise the halftime lead 28-26.

The second half saw the Dusters unravel, as Terrence Sanders would open the half with another kickoff return for a touchdown. In the next Dusters possession, Bassuener would be picked off by Boise defensive back NIGEL ROGERS, who would take the interception into the Dusters endzone for a score.

The bright spot of the second half came from Dusters quarterback Matt Bassuener. Although he did not throw a touchdown pass in the second half, he was able to jog into the Boise endzone twice.

Amarillo (1-8) will return home next week on Saturday, June 6 at the Amarillo Civic Center. To order your tickets, call Amarillo Sports Central at (806) 350-PASS.
